Nidec Machine Tool Co., Ltd. will launch its newly developed MVR-5X gantry-type five-axis machining center on October 26, 2026. The machine will also make its first appearance at JIMTOF2026, the 33rd Japan International Machine Tool Show.

The MVR-5X is equipped as standard with a newly developed compact, high-torque five-axis attachment head. Its spindle permits torque of up to 341 N·m, approximately 20 times that of the previous-generation product. According to the disclosed information, this expands the machine’s potential applications from light cutting to heavy cutting and complex free-form surface machining.

Higher torque broadens the machining range

The key point of the MVR-5X is the combination of five-axis capability and a substantial increase in permitted torque. Five-axis machining can support the processing of complex geometries, while higher torque provides a basis for handling more demanding cutting conditions. Together, these features are intended to support the machining of large components across a wider range of operations.

For manufacturers processing large and complex parts, the expanded machining range may help reduce the need to divide work among different machines or processes. The MVR-5X is therefore positioned around two practical objectives: improving the efficiency of large-part machining and enabling greater process consolidation.

What to watch after the launch

The immediate industry signal is that gantry-type five-axis equipment is being developed to cover both complex surface machining and heavier cutting requirements within a broader operating range. This could draw attention from manufacturers seeking to simplify large-part production routes or reduce the number of separate machining steps.

The actual benefits will depend on factors such as the workpiece, cutting conditions, and production process. Further attention can be given to the machine’s detailed specifications, application examples, and customer adoption after its October 26 launch and JIMTOF2026 debut. These developments will help clarify how widely the MVR-5X can be applied in large-component machining and process consolidation.
